Food

The top of  Cape Breton Island offers a wide variety for the sea food lover.  Whether you are looking for fine dinning or something to cook up yourself, fresh seafood is close at hand.

OysterTasty lobster, Atlantic snow crab, mouth watering mussels, sensuous oysters and fresh ocean halibut, sole, haddock and mackeral all are landed in the immediate area, and in almost all cases may be purchased fresh off the boat at the local wharves and fisher co-ops.

Local restuarants take advantage of the availability of fresh seafood and present it in a variety of tasty dishes.  Imagine sitting at a sea side deck taking in the salty air, the mountains of the Cape Breton Highlands looking down on you, while tasting the treasures the ocean has to offer.

More adventurous visitors may take a deep sea fishing excursion, with a chance to catch cod, mackerel, flounder or haddock.  While catching the evening’s meal, gaze up at bald eagles, guillemots and gannets, and out at various species of whales.

Those enjoying fresh water fishing may test their skill in one of our many streams and rivers, with tasty trout as the reward.

Whether dining out, eating in or fishing for one’s supper, the Top of the Island offers it all!
